Magenbrot, traditional German Christmas cookies, are deliciously spiced and perfect for the holiday season.

Ingredients

  • 200 grams honey
  • 150 grams sugar
  • 100 grams butter
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 100 grams almond slices

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, combine honey, sugar, and butter. Heat until melted and mixed.
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, cinnamon, ginger, and cloves.
  3. Add the honey mixture to the flour mixture, stirring until combined.
  4. Fold in almond slices.
  5. Chill the dough for about 30 minutes.
  6. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  7. Roll out the dough and cut into desired shapes.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add candied orange peel or a touch of brandy.
  • Ensure the cookies are not overbaked for a chewy texture.
